Marco Polo – Retail Fitout, National Rollout
Marco Polo, a well-established name in retail and women’s fashion and part of the Brand Collective portfolio who recently partnered with David Jones to expand its retail presence across Australia.
Known for refined, easy-to-wear wardrobe staples, Marco Polo required a cohesive and functional concession fit-out to elevate their in-store presentation while also aligning with David Jones’ visual standards and requirements. With a relationship already established through past collaborations on Reebok and Replay, Brand Collective once again turned to Apex Display for a reliable, flexible and stylish shopfitting solution.
Design Objectives
As a concession brand within the David Jones environment, Marco Polo needed to meet strict design guidelines, including a maximum fixture height of 2.2 metres. The goal was to create a high-end, space-efficient layout that allowed for simple product changes and easy maintenance of stock by store staff. With tight timelines across multiple store locations in ACT, QLD, NSW and WA, speed to market was a key requirement.
Implementation
To meet these requirements, Apex Display supplied a customised version of our UniSlot™ Cube – tailored specifically to fit the 2.2m height restriction while maintaining the sleek, professional aesthetic Marco Polo is known for. Designed to showcase a rotating selection of garments with both hanging and folded display options, the UniSlot™ system offered a durable and stylish solution that was also highly functional.

- Slatwall Accessories – including slatwall hooks and shelving for flexible merchandising and enhanced store displays
- Timber Shelves and Hanging Rails – lightweight and easy to reposition

The fit-out embraced a timeless, neutral palette to reflect the understated elegance of the Marco Polo brand:
- Metal Finish – Matte Black
- Timber Finish – Light oak-look timber shelving, creating warmth and contrast
Challenges & Solutions
With installations in across many states and a lead time of under a month, time and flexibility were critical to a successful store fitout. Apex Display’s ability to locally manufacture locally in Brisbane and supply a fully customised UniSlot™ Cube within a 2–3 week window was critical in ensuring the project’s success. The lightweight components allowed store teams to manage setup and ongoing display changes with ease, while still adhering to David Jones’ height and design standards.

The final result is a refined, functional display solution that fits seamlessly into the premium environment of David Jones stores across the country. Marco Polo now enjoys consistent brand presentation nationally, with displays that enhance visibility, optimise product flow, and are built to last.
